6 Reasons Your Skincare Routine is not Working

Have you ever wondered why you don’t see results from your skin care regimen? Or why you’re breaking out all of a sudden? Or why a skincare product works wonders on your friends’ skin but disagrees with yours? The big question is “why is your skincare routine not working?”

It might be because you’re making some skincare mistakes without even being aware of them.

Nobody’s skincare routine is perfect. After all, taking care of your skin, choosing the right products, and following a routine is no easy task. It’s natural to make a few mistakes here and there in your skincare journey. And nobody has it all figured out, even when it appears as they have.

By addressing them and helping you fix them, your skincare routine will be back on track, and the long-desired results we all crave will be on your way.

You are not using the right products

It’s easy to grab the first facial cleanser or moisturizer you see but is that really what your skin needs? Everyone’s skin is unique, and what works for you may not work for the next person. To understand what will work best for you, it’s essential to know whether your skin is oily, dry, combination, breakout-prone, aging, etc.

If you’re using the wrong product for your skin type, there will be no results.

You’re not layering your products the right way.

Using the right products is one thing; using them correctly is another. When creating your skincare routine, it is crucial to apply the products in the correct order.

I suggest layering the products in your routine after cleansing from the thinnest formulation to the thickest formulation. This allows serums and lightweight formulas to be absorbed through the skin.

You aren’t taking off your makeup properly

You have to wash your makeup off before bed every single night! Our skin absorbs what we put on it. Do you ever wonder why you get frequent breakouts or dark circles often? It could be due to you not taking your makeup off before bed.

Makeup clogs your pores; that is a fact. Combine that with the act of sweating, rolling, rubbing, and touching your face while you’re sleeping, and you have a recipe for disaster.

Pro tip: Stop using makeup wipes to take off your makeup. Instead, invest in some micellar water like this one from Nivea or a good face oil to help break down your makeup before you cleanse.

You haven’t changed your pillowcase

How often do you change your pillowcases? Sweat, dirt, grind, makeup, dead skin, and bacteria all love making a pillowcase their home. If you are sleeping on a dirty pillowcase, guess where all of those things are going. Your face!

You should change your pillowcase at a very minimum of once a week, if not more. You don’t want bacteria to ruin your hard work and make your skincare routine is not working

You’re not drinking enough water

Water is your best friend! The human body is made up of 70% water, and once you lack the right amount of hydration, the first place it shows is your skin or lips as they become dry, dull, and patchy.

You can avoid this by drinking enough water throughout the day and incorporating hydration into your skincare routine by using products such as hydrating moisturizers or other products containing hydrating ingredients such as plant-based oils and hyaluronic acid inside. If your skin isn’t properly hydrated, it could seem like your skincare routine is not working.

You’re Not Paying Attention to the Food that You Eat

Fruits, vegetables, and whole grains should be present in everyone’s diet. But if you’re looking to maximize your skin’s potential, it’s even more important to pay attention to the food you eat.
