Why You Should Make Selfcare A Habit + A #SelfcareChallenge

I used to think self-care involved just having a morning and nighttime skincare routine, having 8-hour sleep, working out, eating healthy, and drinking lots of water. I was fine with this routine and in fact, I felt I was living the good life till I did a research on self-care and realized self-care involved more than my ritual practice, I realized self-care was a wholesome practice involving my body mind and spirit.

Self-care involves being kind to yourself. It requires you to show yourself compassion and empathy. Click To Tweet

Caring for others is good but showing the same level of care to yourself is also important and should come first. Just the way we are always asked to protect ourselves first before helping others in emergencies. Selfcare shouldn’t be a one-time occurrence. It should be a continuous process because practicing self-care regularly has a significant impact on your health and helps keep your mind and body aligned.

What does selfcare mean to you? ⁣ ⁣ ⁣ May was an overwhelming month for me as I was stressed and sometimes anxious or worried. I told myself at the end of May that I would prioritize what I really needed and decided to go on a #selfcarechallenge in June.⁣ ⁣ ⁣ June didn’t start on a high note with all the sad things happening in the world and I thought it’ll be so important to care for our minds at this time.⁣ ⁣ ⁣ I also thought that a lot of other people might have experienced this too and decided it’ll be fun to dedicate the next 30days to caring for ourselves and discovering what selfcare practices resonate with us and what we plan to incorporate into our lives.⁣ ⁣ ✨To join this challenge, simply click the link in my bio to sign up ✨⁣ ⁣ Also tag a friend who you’ll to go on this journey with, let’s grow together 🌱 ⁣ ⁣ ⁣ #valerieegbuniwe #selfcareposts #selfcareisnotselfish #livinginlagos #selfcaretime #selfcareideas #selfcare101 #growwithvalerie #lifestyleblogger #blackcreators #blackcreative

Why it’s important to indulge in self care

Increases Self-worth:

Practicing self-care helps place importance on yourself and encourages you to build a healthy relationship with yourself. By building a relationship with yourself, you will begin to discover things about yourself that you previously overlooked. You’ll also have time to improve on your weaknesses, which would help boost your confidence and self-esteem.

It Helps Balance Your Life:

We all have very busy schedules and often end up feeling drained and disorganized but taking regular breaks, setting work boundaries, and making time for self-care will allow you rest and recharge your energy making you more productive.

Helps Manage Stress:

Stress can make you break down. That is why it is important to pay attention to your body and practice regular self-care(whatever that might mean for you).
Selfcare helps reduce the effects of stress, boost your mood, and helps increase your energy level.

It’s a personal practice and can differ due to individual preference. Some examples of self-care activities include meditating, reciting affirmations, decluttering your space, journaling, and practicing mindfulness, these self-care practices can help you understand your body needs, align and tune your body mind and soul together which will eventually help you become the best version of yourself.

I’ve created a challenge to help anyone who’s interested in exploring self-care and identifying what this word might mean for them in order to make it a habit.
